PPP's Parent Community Outreach Commitee will be collecting new and gently-used books for Raising a Reader and Reach out and Read from April 15 - 19. Both of these programs aim to educate low income families about the multifaceted value of reading to their child at a young age, and put ageappropriate books directly into their hands to make reading a reality. It's our goal to deliver 1,000 or more new and gently-used books to these programs. Won't you join us in sharing the beautiful gift of reading with other children and families in our community? Look for the drop box that will be located in the preschool courtyard during WOYC.

The Week of the Young Child™

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public  attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The 2013 Week of the Young Child™ is April 14-20 and the theme is Early Years Are Learning Years. The preschool will be celebrating WOYC with a variety of events including an Art Walk showcasing work done by the children of PPP. Other events planned throughout the week are:

  • Monday, 4/15 and Tuesday, 4/16 the Scottsdale Fire Dept. will visit with their fire truck and talk to the classes about fire safety.
  • Wednesday, 4/17 we'll have a picnic on the playground at 11:00am while being entertained by the Singing Cowboy and his horse Dusty.
  • Thursday, 4/18 we'll have The Great AZ Puppet Theater here performing a puppet show, "Old MacDonald".

The Hundred Languages of Children

Consistent with Loris Malaquzzi's concept of the Hundred Languages of Children, the Reggio Emilia approach calls for the integration of the graphic arts as tools for cognitive, linguistic, and social development.  Print, art, construction, drama, music, puppetry, and shadow play are viewed as essential to children's understanding of experience and expression of what they know.
