Plans Drawn Up for Church Design
The “PPC Design Team” for Haiti has been hard at work on the details of a structure to house Pastor Luc’s church in Port-au-Prince.
Plans call for the new church to be earthquake and hurricane resistant. Top, architectural rendering of the new church; below, ruins of the old church.
The design team consists of Sake Reindersma, John Rosenfeld, Mike Edwards, Steve Loken and Dick Heisler, with coordination, leadership and communication with Pastor Luc and the consortium provided by Mark Leinweber.
After looking at many options for the large sanctuary, they’ve arrived at a steel building as a good solution for earthquake/hurricane resistance and cost effectiveness.
Pastor Luc has received drawings of the building and interior and is now working with a local engineer to address several specific questions (exact dimensions of existing building slab, availability of specific materials, availability of construction people, etc.).
Once the final design is agreed upon and the specific questions answered, bids will be obtained to determine costs of the steel structure, shipping, construction, etc.
It’s exciting to see this progress and the vision for a solid and safe church home for the more than 1,000 people who come to Pastor Luc’s church for refuge, peace and hope.
Thank you to those who are giving of their time and talents to turn the vision into a plan.
