"When to Say When--the Difficult Decision"
An orthopedic surgeon and intensive care nurse discuss the heart-breaking decision that family members, siblings or parents go through when confronted with the impending death of a loved one. The discussion of what to do between medical care-givers and the legal representative can be very difficult when it means ending all but comfort care. It can be overwhelming to be asked to make health care decisions for someone who is dying and no longer able to make his or her own decisions.
It is even more difficult if you do not have written or even verbal guidance.
How do you decide what type of care is right for someone? Even when you have written documents, some decisions still might not be clear.
Join us at our monthly Faith and Science Interface as Dr. Doug Drake, retired orthopedic surgeon, leads us in a lively discussion about the journey of difficult decisions. Fellow church members, Dr. Spike Paul (retired pediatric neurologist) and Mrs. Lynne Avram (registered nurse) will also be joining the panel to add their experience.
