Echoes (of the Word)

Gathering in Prayer

We all mourned on the grave day of May 24, 2022. The massacre that took place in Uvalde, TX is something many of us can only imagine.  An elementary school classroom that should be the safest space on earth, was a place of horror.

This shook me. It scared me, and still haunts me. How can this be? How can children be in the line of fire?  How can we protect those we love the most? How can we explain God’s response to this tragedy?

I’ve been thinking of the small town community in Texas, the church leaders, the Sunday School teachers, the mommies and the daddies that are left in anguish. I want to do something. I think we all want to do something.

I found our Sister in Christ, Rev Gini Norris-Lane, First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde, TX, taking action, and I wanted to share with you. Their church held a prayer service Wednesday, May 25 and the pastor began by stating,  “we come tonight because as those who follow Jesus, we don’t know what else to do but to gather in prayer.”

The scriptures she chose to share, the prayers she prays, the love that she shows is incredibly powerful.

She ends with this, “No matter whether you have the words to pray or you struggle to find them, know you are heard. And know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are held in God’s love and wrapped in God’s care and given God’s grace just for the moment ahead — every single moment.”

Thank you, Pastor.  For sharing light and love to your community and beyond.
